Fifty is the new Fabulous…

Fifty & Fabulous

Did you know that Americans between the ages 35-50 made up 45 percent of cosmetic procedures – surgical and non-surgical – performed in 2014?  And it’s no wonder.  Youth is touted everywhere we look. And even those celebs who’ve reached the half-century milestone – Sandra Bullock, Cindy Crawford, and Halle Berry to name a few – look better than ever.

Aging can be difficult for people – women and men alike.  Many of our patients at Parker Plastic Surgery who fall into this age group are currently opting for more non-invasive procedures like Voluma and Juvederm to add volume that’s been lost to aging.  Chemical peels and Botox are also popular options.  And when patients do opt for surgery, it’s most often eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty.  And they are always amazed at how much younger and refreshed they look afterwards.

Our professional society, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), sends us links to various stories that relate to plastic surgery.  In today’s email, one of the articles was about putting your best face forward at 50 years old.  To read the article, click here.

Tax Refunds for Plastic Surgery?

tax-refund

April 15th (or April 18th this year) has come and gone, and hopefully any tax-related stress is behind you.  Did you get a refund (or have you already received it)?  If so, lucky you.  Now the big question is, “what are you going to do with it?”.

A recent article from Forbes magazine, discusses what average Americans will be using their refunds for – savings accounts, debt reduction and, yes, even plastic surgery.

The average refund comes in at just under $3000.00, so major cosmetic surgeries won’t be fully paid for (our breast augmentation surgery costs $5600.00), but the extra cash can certainly help. And if surgery isn’t what you had in mind, there are always non-invasive treatments like Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, Kybella and chemical peels.

Many of our patients see spring as a good time to do something for themselves.  The weather begins to warm, the layers of clothing start to come off, and swimsuit season is just around the corner.  So if you’ve been wondering about plastic surgery, and if you’re getting a little bit of cash back from Uncle Sam, it’s a perfect time to schedule that consultation.

Beware of Bogus Botox!

We recently received notification from Allergan, the BOTOX® Cosmetic company, that the FDA has sent warning letters to medical practices who are purchasing BOTOX® Cosmetic from foreign or unlicensed suppliers. Believe it or not, some physicians put profit ahead of patient safety by buying BOTOX® Cosmetic from illegal sources.

We here at Parker Plastic Surgery want you to know that we purchase our BOTOX® Cosmetic directly from Allergan, and Allergan has listed the following tips to make sure you’re getting authentic BOTOX® Cosmetic:

  1. See a reputable physician who purchases BOTOX® Cosmetic directly from Allergan or an authorized Allergan distributor.
  2. Request to see the package and vial of BOTOX® Cosmetic that the physician will use during your treatment.
    • Check the package for a U.S. license number on the carton.
    • The vial will have the “BOTOX® Cosmetic” logo and also have a hologram image that says Allergan.
